WHAT WE HAVE DONE -
OUR RESEARCH and DESIGN CREDITS
ON Sunday, October
14, 2007, the Primate of the Anglican Church of Australia,
the Most Reverend Phillip Aspinall, in the presence of the Queensland
Governor, Her Excellency Mrs Quentin Bryce AC, preached at a Eucharist
Service at the Church of St Thomas
the Apostle, Jephson Street, Toowong, Brisbane, to celebrate the 130th
anniversary of the Dedication of St Thomas's
Church. A Church For Its Times - researched and written by
Helen Gregory and first published by the Parish of Toowong in 1977 - was
republished to coincide with the anniversary
festivities. It includes a new chapter, contributed by
Noel Henricksen, that looks back over the past three decades. Garrison
Communications was commissioned by Brisbane City Council to edit and design the
new edition. The 112-page paperback includes many colour plates and
not-previously-published images. Available from the Parish of
Toowong.
ON August 26,
2006, Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman launched Memories of Taringa
Village, a book edited and designed by Peter Collins of Garrison
Communications, on behalf of Taringa History Group, in association with the
Brisbane City Council and then Councillor for Toowong Ward, Judy
Magub. This 80-page publication presents more than 120 images of the
community hub of the Brisbane inner-western suburb of Taringa - including many
never-before-published photos. Featuring nostalgic
vignettes, biographical sketches of pioneers and glimpses
of its streetscapes through time, Memories of Taringa Village
is available for purchase from the Taringa History Group for $20.00 a
copy. E-mail the Toowong Ward
office or phone (07) 3403-2520.
RICHARD Maudsley
(1822-1920) was enticed to emigrate from Holme, Westmorland, England,
to Queensland some 140 years ago by the promise of a better future in
the fledgling cotton and sugar growing industry. Read his obituary. The Queen Of The Colonies
brought Richard, his wife Agnes (nee Booker) and their seven children to
Brisbane (in record time), arriving in October 1866. Click on the 'Regal
Clipper' icon (above) to learn more about this celebrated Black Ball
Line vessel. To obtain your own copy of this limited-edition book,

Jane Walker (1865-1934), were wed at the Church of St Thomas the Apostle,
Toowong, in 1886.
