THIS CD-ROM's official title page describes it contents and purpose best: The Queensland Post Office and Official Directory (Wise's) (for) 1903 containing separate directories for every city, town and township in Queensland and Alphabetical and Trades Directory for the whole State; Together with banking and finance, legal, ecclesiastical, insurance, educational, medical, municipal, pastoral and agricultural, official and local and general government directories.

The preface of this essential genealogical research library addition, puts it in a nutshell:

'...In placing before the Public the QUEENSLAND POST OFFICE AND OFFICIAL DIRECTORY for 1903, the publishers beg to tender their thanks to the business men throughout the State for their continued support, and to the Deputy Postmaster-General and the various Official Departments for their hearty co-operation and assistance.
The work is the only complete Directory of the whole State published, and, containing as it does a list of the entire Private, Business and Professional Names, must be of inestimable value to the business community.
THE TOWNS SECTION contains complete Street Directories of Brisbane and Suburbs, South Brisbane and Suburbs, Charters Towers, Rockhampton, Toowoomba and Townsville, also separate Directories for every other Town, Township and Postal District in Queensland.
Special attention is paid to the Wealth Producers of the State, and the Pastoral and Agricultural Directory will be found most complete, while the Stations and Landholders' List alone is a most valuable and reliable one. A full list of Mining Companies is also given in Trades Section.
The arrangement is, as hitherto, so systematic that any information sought for is easily traced, the work being an index in itself; but to ensure ready reference a complete index will be found on the succeeding pages.
..'

This 1,448-page directory, including most text in the ads, is searchable, and therefore useful not only for finding names, but also places, occupations and other information for family and local historians.
