Well quite a lot really, compared to an equivalent English or Welsh civil registration document. The years 1856 to 1860 aren't much chop, but after then official certificates typically contain these facts:- The names of the deceased- Date and time of death- Address at time of death and usual residence, if not the same- Age and occupation- Marital status and name of spouse if applicable- Names of any issue; their ages and the time of death, and their ages and when they died, if prior to the death in 1855- Name and occupation of the deceased's father, and if he was deceased by this date- Name and maiden surname of the deceased's mother, and if she was deceased by this date- Cause of death, and name of medical attendant (if any)- Burial place and name of undertaker- Signature of the informant and relationship to the deceased (if any)- From 1967, the date of birth of the deceased is also recorded (but due to privacy requirements, we are unable to procure Scottish death certificates recorded in or after 1958 on your behalf)Please remember that civil registration of births, deaths and weddings in Scotland only began in 1855 and that a significant proportion of all hatches, matches and dispatches were never officially recorded.
