ExpressoEnglish/Welsh Death Certificate
[For a death registered between 1837 and 2004. Actual official certificate - not a transcript.]
Just $37.55 (incl. GST and Australia Post delivery to anywhere in Australia) each.

In the boxes above, enter the St Catherine's House/Family Records Centre index reference details for the official English or Welsh Death Certificate you require.

The St Cath's indices are often available at your nearest Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints™ (or "LDS") Family History Centre. Why not let us do the search on your behalf? Our search fees start at just $22.00 (incl. GST) per certificate.

Please remember that civil (official) registration of births, deaths and marriages only began in July 1837 and that a significant proportion of all hatches, matches and dispatches were never officially recorded.

Did you know that...

  • From 1875 the British Government got tough on the issue of enforcement of compulsory registration of deaths.
  • From the September quarter of 1837 to June quarter of 1911 , the GRO Death Certificate index only displays the first two full forenames of the deceased, his or her subsequent initials, and the registration district and reference number in which the death occurred.
  • From the September quarter of 1911 up to the present day, the index shows only the deceased's first forename, his or her subsequent initials, as well as the registration district and number in the index of the death.
  • Between the September quarter of 1837 and the December quarter of 1865, the age of the deceased at the time of death was not required to be recorded. Indeed, the place of interment is not indicated, neither was there any official requirement to indicate the names and maiden surname of the father and mother of the deceased.
  • From the March quarter of 1866 to the March quarter of 1969, the deceased age at death is indicated on the certificate and index.
  • From the June quarter of 1969 up to the present day, the exact date of birth of the deceased is included in the index.
  • These days the registrar asks for the following details: the date and place of death, name and surname of the deceased, maiden surname, if the deceased was a woman who had married, date and place of birth, occupation, name and occupation of husband, where the deceased was a married woman or widow, usual address, whether the deceased received a pension or allowance from public funds, if the deceased was married, the date of birth of the surviving widow or widower. The cause of death details must be supplied from a doctor's medical certificate.

Good luck!

**IMPORTANT - OUR SEARCH FEE POLICY**: A AUD$22.00 (incl. GST)charge - for a search of up to four quarters only - will be automatically added in respect of each certificate ordered where either no index reference information was provided by the customer, or where a search of the index was required due to an error in the information originally supplied by the customer. A fee of AUD$33.00 (incl. GST) will be applied - in addition to the cost of the certificate itself - if a search of up to 20 quarters of the index is necessitated.

DID YOU KNOW: The General Register Office currently charges customers GBP£11.50 to have its own staff conduct a search of the register indexes for a period not exceeding THREE years? GST)...you'll always stretch your genealogical research dollar further with Garrison Communications...Taking the Mystery Out of YOUR Family History.™
