Price: QTY: Bulimba Cemetery Monumental Inscriptions Bulimba Cemetery (Brisbane) Monumental Inscriptions Index, on CD-ROMPublished by the Queensland Family History Society Incorporated, December 2006. ISBN 1 921171 11 1Just $45.00 (incl. GST and certified Australia Post postage and handling to anywhere in Australia).THIS resource indexes all the monumental (headstone) inscriptions ("MIs") to be found in one of Brisbane's larger public graveyards, Bulimba Cemetery (controlled by Brisbane City Council), as transcribed in 1980 by volunteer members of the Queensland Family History Society Incorporated (QFHS), then rechecked and updated in 1993 prior to indexing and publication on microfiche by QFHS in 1995.This re-release on CD makes the resource much more accessible and allows searching of the text of the full publication using the free-to-download Acrobat Reader software by Adobe®.As well as the inscriptions, the file includes a map of the cemetery showing the position of each headstone and an index to all names referred to on the inscriptions. The entries cover some 10,000 people and the file represents more than 400 pages of inscriptions, maps and indexing, making it an excellent and indispensable resource for researching Brisbane families.Bulimba Cemetery, also known as Balmoral Cemetery because it borders Balmoral Park, is one of the city's earliest cemeteries, with the first burial in 1874 of George Wilson Pointon, a six-year-old boy who drowned in Norman Creek. The material on this CD is even more significant given the way time and indiscriminate vandalism is taking their toll on the headstones. As well as confirming or showing possible errors in the burial register, the MIs often show family relationships for three or four generations, including names of people not buried in the grave. Details can include parents, birthplace and date, marriage information, titles and honours. Neighbouring plots can include related families. This CD is the second in the QFHS Cemeteries Monumental Inscriptions Series to be produced with files in the PDF format, and follows the disk containing MIs for the Beenleigh, Redlands and Cleveland districts (also available through the Garrison Communications Family History Research Services website at http://www.garrisonau.com/prod220.htm).
