Photocopy of official registry page entry only - not a certificate.]Just $33.55 (incl. GST and Australia Post delivery to anywhere in Australia) each.If you don't actually require a certified copy of a statutory entry of an individual's registration of death from the GROS death registers, especially a certificate for the death of an individual before 1958 (that is, up to the end of 1957), here's a more cost-effective option.Just fill in the boxes (above) and Garrison Communications will obtain on your behalf an A4 photocopy printout of any death registration officially recorded between 1855 and 1956 (inclusive). The digital image printed out is a copy of the register page containing the entry in which you are interested. There may be several other entries on the page. An extract is a certified, legally-admissible copy of the specific death register - but it is a printout only, not an official GROS death certificate with the embossed seal, etc. To order a pre-1958 death certificate, click here.Where a GROS-certified digital image of an original death register entry must be procured and copied by the GROS itself, there may be a delay of up to three weeks in delivery.Death/burial indices for the years before 1855 don't presently exist. Recording of deaths/burials in the Old Parish Registers was patchy and often non-existent. Sometimes the only record of a death will be the recording of hire of the mortcloth (pall) to cover the coffin before burial. For information on the existence or otherwise of deaths/burials for particular parishes, see the relevant page on the GROS website. So what can you expect to see on a statutory death register entry from 1855 onwards? Well quite a lot really, compared to an equivalent English or Welsh civil registration document. The years 1856 to 1860 aren't much chop, but after then official certificates typically contain these facts:- The names of the deceased- Date and time of death- Address at time of death and usual residence, if not the same- Age and occupation- Marital status and name of spouse if applicable- Names of any issue; their ages and the time of death, and their ages and when they died, if prior to the death in 1855- Name and occupation of the deceased's father, and if he was deceased by this date- Name and maiden surname of the deceased's mother, and if she was deceased by this date- Cause of death, and name of medical attendant (if any)- Burial place and name of undertaker- Signature of the informant and relationship to the deceased (if any)- From 1967, the date of birth of the deceased is also recorded (but due to privacy requirements, we are unable to procure Scottish death certificates recorded in or after 1958 on your behalf) Please remember that civil registration of births, deaths and weddings in Scotland only began in 1855 and that a significant proportion of all hatches, matches and dispatches were never officially recorded.
