THIS CD-ROM provides three indices: An index to some 65,000 entries in the lists of Queensland Public Service employees published periodically in the Queensland Government Gazette from 1864 to 1948 (or Queensland Blue Book for 1870 to 1879); an index to some 35,000 names of teachers mention in the Education Queensland Gazette between 1907 and 1920; and an index to some 12,500 names from school committee notices found in the Queensland Government Gazette between, 1876, when they commenced, and 1889. These indices can be directly searched by name, year and other details with QFHSdatasearch, which also provides direct links to the source images of the Queensland Family History Society Incorporated's (QFHS) working copies of the Queensland Public Service employees, viewable with Adobe® Acrobat Reader™. The material on this CD-ROM is an excellent resource for researching Queensland public servants. The main index gives the name, present office position held, location of branch and/or office, date of birth, date of initial appointment, and the date, page and volume of the Queensland Government Gazette reference. Further information given in the Gazette or Blue Book may include salary, allowance, qualifications and appointment details. The teachers' index covers teacher admissions, promotions, transfers and resignamtions, listing the name, type of entry, standing, school(s), date and page reference in the Education Office Gazette. The school committee index covers notices of appointments and resignations for more than 300 schools from all regions of Queensland. QFHSdatasearch is a generic interface designed to search genealogy databases and developed by the QFHS. This version features field-orientated and keyword searches, Boolean selection, sorting, wildcard searches and links between search results and images in PDF files. Please note: This resource will not work on an Apple® Mac® system, although certain Windows® emulation software might prove successful.
