THIS CD-ROM provides and index to the some 370,000 entries in the lists of Queensland Rail's employees published in the Queensland Government Gazette from 1889 to 1940, as well as three smaller indices to other railway employee information, scanned images of all source pages and scanned images of railway regualtions and Acts from the period. The indices can be directly searched by name, year and other details with QFHSdatasearch, which also provides direct links to the source images, viewable with Adobe® Acrobat Reader™. This resource includes many years not previously published in microfiche format. The material on this CD-ROM is an excellent resource for researching Queensland Rail families and railway history. The main index covers the entire railway career of many individual Queensland Rail workers. It gives the name, age (from 1889), position held, branch and/or office, and railway and/or division for each person employed in the Queensland Rail service on the 30th day of June for the year indicated. The rate of pay and qualifications (where applicable) are also available in the Gazette source images. The other indices are to the Queensland Rail "appointments and removals - 1890", "dismissals - 1879" for Ipswich and Rockhampton railway workshops, and the "classification list" for locomotive enginemen, firemen and cleaners for 1912. Images of railways regulations and Acts published in the Gazette during the period and included on the CD-ROM add to the picture of the employees' lives. QFHSdatasearch is a generic interface designed to search genealogy databases and developed by the Queensland Family History Society Incorporated. This version features field-orientated and keyword searches, Boolean selection, sorting, wildcard searches and links between search results and images in PDF files.
