SOME OTHER TMG SITES WORTH BOOKMARKING
VERSION 8.0 NEWS
Here's some detail about the changes in ver.8.0 of TMG, due for release soon…
http://www.whollygenes.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=WG&Screen=TMG8PREVIEW
The website (as at March 4, 2010) hastened to declare: "Although we expect that TMG ver.8.0 will include the new features here, among others, this preview of work-in-progress does not represent a committment with respect to any particular feature(s) or option(s). When TMG ver.8.0 is available to the public, it will be announced in the Wholly Genes Newsletter."
Perhaps a very telling clue as to the status of TMG's "ver.8.0 release date" was reflected in the pithy comment of Wholly Genes's master user/tester/software guru, Jim Byram, writing on the TMG mailing list at RootsWeb (on June 2, 2010), viz.-
{ DORR, Bud }:- "Is a fix coming or do we wait for ver.8.0?"
{ BRYAM, J. }:- "It has been said repeatedly: ver.8.0 contains a new report manager and new word-processing modules that will resolve the issue with 64-bit operating systems. Put another way…ver.8.0 is the fix. There is no simple fix. Resolving the issue required a major change to TMG."
UK GOLD ver.7.04 PATCH ISSUES
Anyone using the UK Gold Edition should not assume that the internal update notification and patch installer in ver.7.x works properly. Always dismiss the internal notice and visit the update page at www.whollygenes.com to download the listed UK Gold Edition upgrade patch found there.
Then just run this patch as you would any normal update and follow the prompts until the "splash" screen confirms you are working in the latest UK Gold Edition variant. Brisbane TMG Group users recommend that you then perform a "re-index" of your project, as well as a "validate" and "optimise" to ensure every potential internal TMG issue is resolved with your data before proceeding.
Users upgrading to TMG ver.7.04 should please understand the following important points:
THEREFORE, the process to upgrade your data from ver.6.12 (or earlier) to ver.7.04 is as follows
1) Run TMG ver.6.12 and back up your data (File > Backup). In Step 2 of the Backup Wizard, be SURE to make a note of the backup file location. In Step 3, be sure to include accents, filters, layouts, report configurations, and any other customisations that you want to move to ver.7.04.
2) Purchase your ver.7.04 Unlock Code upgrade to The Master Genealogist™ ver.7.04 or the full program.
3) Install TMG ver.7.04 and run that program with the Sample project. Consult the "Data File Storage" help topic if desired.
4) Restore your project to TMG ver.7.04 (File > Restore), selecting the backup file that you created in Step #1. Since TMG ver.6.12 and ver.7.04 can peacefully co-exist on your computer, we recommend that you do not uninstall the earlier version until you're happily accessing your data with the new program.

SOME BTMGUG BACKGROUND
BTMGUG - for those who have purchased, or are contemplating purchasing The Master Genealogist™ - was formally inaugurated at Australian Genealogy Roadshow on Thursday, April 17, 2003.
This predecessor of this page went "live" on Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at 12.45pm, with your honorary webmaster and convenor of the group, Peter Collins, in the design chair. I would still very much appreciate your input as to how we progress this project further…maybe you could have your two cents' worth by becoming a fan of the group's Facebook page (click on the button above).
As a long-term TMG Gold user, it is a real joy to "get under the bonnet" of this wonderfully versatile piece of software and to stretch its capabilities even further...perhaps you feel the same way? Join us, won't you?
